About WYMA

WYMA provides an opportunity for the best young musicians in the Greater Waikato region to come together to be extended and challenged to aspire to the highest level of musical excellence in all respects.

Founded in 1966, the Association remains true to its founding vision to provide extension performance opportunities for its members and provides a link for those who wish to make the transition into adult music groups. WYMA is also committed to encouraging its members to embrace music as a life long interest.

As in the past, the Association continue to work closely with schools in the district and is now looking to liaise more closely with adult groups and with the wider community.

As an incorporated society WYMA is responsible for:

  • the financial welfare of WYMA and it's groups.
  • the welfare and safety of all subscribed individuals and institute groups.
  • the appointment of conductors.
  • the management of assets (instruments, music etc).
  • the promotion of WYMA and each group.

WYMA has an extensive list of instruments and music which are readily made available for hire/loan.

Our Mission Statement

"The Waikato Youth Music Association Inc will promote and facilitate quality musical development and opportunities for young musicians in the Greater Waikato."

This is the philosophy that guides WYMA. In all cultures and races throughout the world, music has always been an integral part of the celebration of beliefs and identity.

We are the training ground, the stepping stone between schools and the regional, national and international music world. The musical gift we can give our youth may form the basis of a successful and fulfilling career or a livelong interest in the music of others. Many of our members have gone onto to perform, teach, and facilitate music throughout the world.
