Youth Choir Home

The Waikato Youth Choir was formed in 1992 under the directorship of Clare Henderson
as part of the Waikato Youth Music Association umbrella organization, with the purpose
of allowing young singers in the region to develop and grow chorally.

Now in its 15th year, the Youth Choir is currently under the conductorship of
Dr Julie Jackson-Gough, who joined in 2003.

The aim of the choir is still to participate and develop music appreciation through
singing, to instil basic vocal skills and to strive for excellence in choral performance.
The choir is here to enrich the lives of young people through the magic of music!

A varied repertoire is maintained to 'provide a song for any occasion', and these young
singers perform at every occasion they can! The choir regularly sings at civic events such
as ANZAC day services and citizenship ceremonies. This busy timetable peaks around
Christmas for the choir as its services are in demand to entertain at both public and
private events.

The Youth Choir has had considerable success at choral competition level including a first
place in the North Auckland Choral Competition in 1998.

Members range in age from 16 to 25 years, and are mainly students from the Waikato
region. Rehearsals are held on Monday evenings, 7.15 - 9.00 pm at St Paul's Collegiate
School in Hamilton.

We are always on the lookout for more activities and opportunities to participate in,
so if you would like us to perform with or for you, feel free to contact either the manager
or the conductor!
