Dr Julie Jackson-Gough

Dr Julie Jackson-Gough is Senior Lecturer in Music Education in the
School of Education at the University of Waikato, where she teaches music
education classes, music performance classes, and frequently runs workshops
for the Continuing Education branch of the University in vocal techniques
and vocal confidence. She is continually involved in running singing
workshops with schools and churches around the greater Waikato area. Julie
is also still in demand as a soprano soloist, having recently performed the
soprano solo with the Hamilton Civic Choir in Ramirez’ Misa Criolla.

Julie has conducted choirs for thirty years. She conducted the Blenheim
Choral Society 1979 - 1984, the Taupo Choral Society 1986 - 1992, and the
Hamilton Civic Choir 1996-1999, along with various festival and conference
choirs. She established Tauhara Consort, a select choir from Tauhara College
in Taupo, and led them to national success in the New Zealand Choral Federation
Festivals. Julie has also been a professional minister of music in Florida,
having trained an Allcomers Choir in two different churches there.

Julie is president of the Hamilton Society for Music Education as well as
on the national board. She has been a broadcast artist for the Concert
programme, and featured as soprano soloist in numerous Messiah performances as
well as an extended recital career both here in New Zealand and in the United
States, during the 1980’s and early 1990’s. Julie’s singing is featured on the
New Zealand edition of Musikit, a music education teaching programme produced
in 1990. She has been a registered teacher of piano since 1972, and singing
since 1979. To add variety, Julie has regular bookings as a public speaker,
generally to such groups as Probus Clubs and Rotary Clubs.
